<VV> Adjustable Cam gear

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who successfully installed the American Pi adjustable cam gear.  I've had the kit for years and just now decided to use it.  No issues installing the parts onto the cam.  My question has to do with how to make the initial installation with the crank.  I have the instructions and know how to degree a cam but not sure of the placement of the vernier scale.  Thanks     .
