G'day everyone,
Factory tinted glass and factory air conditioning were separate options. Our 1965 Monza convertible left the assembly line equipped with factory air conditioning but had clear side glass.

Factory tinted glass even in current model cars is not as dark as the aftermarket 'stick on' artificial 'tinted glass' which in my opinion is horrible stuff.

With our '65 Convertible I replaced the clear side glass with factory tinted glass.

I have gotten several offers for used glass from members! Thank you very
much. However, they all ask if I had tinted or clear glass and I am not
sure. Correct me if I am wrong, but only the vairs with AC had tinted
windows in 1966? Mine is a 2 door corsa that did not have AC.? So I am
assuming that I want the non-tinted windows?

Thanks!

Chuck

I'm fairly sure they were two separate options, and if you got a/c tinted windows were required but not vice versa. So while unlikely, I think it's possible your car has tinted glass. The way to check is put a piece of plain paper halfway behind the glass and see if the glass has a bluish tinge (it's not really tinted by today's standards, but it is obvious with this test). The other thing you could do is decode the options line on the body tag using Kent Sullivan's excellent reference at https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.corvairkid.com%2F&data=04%7C01%7C%7C09b5d53b28834249ba3508d9fd374a8a%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637819236212675620%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=LQU9nYGGjL7Yoo%2F2NHG5XGam8O%2B%2B%2FVfag1bqzWQTQbc%3D&reserved=0.

Tinted glass was always a separate option (RPO AO1) and was not required with A/C (although they were usually ordered together).

It is shown on 1964-67 Fisher Body Tags as the Letter ?E? in group 1 of the ACC line.

If it's OE tinted it will say Soft Ray on the glass. If not, it will say safety Plate. You'll have to look closely to see it, but it will be on there somewhere.Paul Fox
