G'day from Australia 'down under'.
My single 'claim to fame' is that for over 50 years of owning and driving many cars, none of my cars have ever had black wall tires. Absolutely every one of them has had white walls of various widths. I have never purchased a common black wall tire and I never will.
Even our daily driver, a 2017 built WN series II Holden Caprice which as 19-inch tires has thin band white walls! So, I feel qualified to comment on white wall widths for a '64 Corvair Monza.
I absolutely stand to be corrected, but in my opinion a 'one inch wide white wall ' is correct for 1964 Chevrolet passenger cars.
Finding a one-inch-wide white wall in a radial tire can be a challenge but is easier on cross ply tires. A full one inch wide white wall looks a whole lot better than narrower white walls, but this fact is often not appreciated by many.
1.5 and 2 inch wide white walls were used up to 1961. White wall widths were less than an inch from 1966 until the late 1970s when they again increased to 1.4 inches.
Could expend further on the above.
Kind regards and Happy New Year!
Carl Kelsen

1964 Monza. I've seen many opinions. Thanks Ed

I had a '64 with original tires, and if I recall correctly, they were 7/8".
