[1969] Mark Ellis - Sad News...

Yes, the news is indeed sad. Mark sent me the same thing from my original
CORSA application. I last met him at the 30 year anniversary of the'69s in
1999 at the Virginia Vair Fair. He had reproduced "original" window sticker
for our '69s and was the major impetus for all of the versions of the 1969
"Fingertip Facts" books and revisions, not to mention getting the '69
Corvair Group going and editing the newsletter. He will be greatly missed.

As members of the '69 group, we should develop a way to commemorate his
memory. Any suggestions?

This is terrible news! Mark was a true gentleman and a great ambassador for
the Corvair community. I have known and corresponded with him since shortly
after I joined CORSA in 1969. Just a few weeks ago he sent me copies of my
original CORSA application that he had found somewhere. His presentation at
the 69'er group meeting at Detroit in 2007 was a fantastic history of the
end of the Corvair line. He was more than generous with his time for any
Corvair person and will be sadly missed. My condolences go out to Eve and
all his family. We will not see his likes again!

Folks, It's with a heavy heart that I share with you the sad news the
doctors have determined there is nothing more they can do for Mark. Over the
weekend he developed further complications and a CT scan revealed he'd
suffered irreversible brain damage, leaving no hope that he'd ever be coming
home again. Later this afternoon, surrounded by family & friends he will be
taken off of life support. I want to thank all of you for the outpouring of
thoughts and prayers, phone calls and e-mails. They've made a terrible time
much more bearable. In his own quiet way, Mark was a wonderful person and
will be missed more than words can ever say. Arrangements are still pending
at this time - tentatively a memorial service here in his adopted home of
Virginia, before being taken home to Pennsylvania and laid to rest with his
parents at the Chapel in Valley Forge State Park. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to either the CORSA / CPF Fund or the SPCA. As you
know, his beloved 1969
Corvairs, the '69 Project, the '69er Newsletter and our rescued cats were
very important to him. I know he'd be embarrassed by all the fuss, I don't
think he ever realized how much folks thought of him. Sincerely, Eve Ellis
