Years ago, we decided that renewing memberships on the anniversary of
when a member joined was a book keeping headache. Our $15 dues are due
Nov 1. Those unpaid on Jan 1 are dropped.

Typically, almost no one pays by Nov 1. Many wait until the Christmas
Dinner/Party which is early Dec. Late in Dec we usually have to start
reminding those last few to pay. As of right now, we still have 8
unpaid.

1 has told me he isn't rejoining, after being inactive for over 10
years.
2 have told me they will pay, but haven't yet.
2 I don't expect to pay as they have made it clear that they won't.
2 have not returned my phone message and emails. Who knows what they'll
do.
1 I have not been able to get ahold of.

As of last Dec, our membership was 48 (member units or families).

We tell them that if they're unpaid on Jan 1 they are dropped and won't
receive any more newsletters, etc. The problem is, the newsletter is
usually mailed before then. So we end up sending a Jan newsletter to
everyone anyway. It's really the Feb newsletter that ends up being the
cut off.

After July 1 our dues are pro-rated to $10. After then, I try to get
them to pay $25 for the rest of the year and next.

In 1997 we changed our policy to be that after a member has belonged to
our club for 1 year, they must join CORSA. We felt this was a good
compromise between requiring membership for all and for none.
Previously, we required $25 for non-CORSA members. The extra $10 was
sent to CORSA. This is also a good way to handle non-CORSA members. We
feel strongly about supporting CORSA. We felt the 1 year grace period
gave people new to Corvairing time to see what it was all about; to
come to our meetings, maybe go to Helen or the Fall Affair, and see how
interested they really are in Corvairing. For those who were really
interested, most have joined without a problem. This policy has been
reviewed almost annually, as there have always been some who didn't
like being told what to do and that they had to join CORSA. During this
time, there have been 2 instances where we actually returned checks to
members who refused to join CORSA and meet our membership requirements.
In both cases, those were inactive members who in fact, didn't
contribute to the club.
