CORSA 2012: Economy Run and more

Bruce,

Actually it could work out very well.

>From what I have seen in the past, drivers try to stretch the rules where they can in either a rally or econo run. While "some what legal" it goes against the spirit of the event. The MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT in either event is to HAVE FUN with the car and not a WIN AT ALL COSTS type of thinking.

Even if the rally were a TSD rally, you could still incorporate an econo run as part of the TSD rally. OK drivers, here is your TSD rally, we will award trophies for the top 3 cars in class for being on time and also the top 3 cars in class for the best fuel mileage. It is really that SIMPLE.

Yea, a lot of people will bitch and moan but those COULD BE the rules of the game. Chose to play or sit on the side lines.

This is not rocket science, just go out and have fun with the car. Aren't people there for fun and to meet other Corvair people and to catch up on the latest news?

I do like the "let's try something different" approach. Keep it fresh and new instead of the same old convention since the beginning of time.

As to CORSA RULES for running a rally or econo run, shouldn't rules be of an advisory nature and not cast in stone? CORSA just may be wrong in some of the rules or their ideas. But there I go tugging on Superman's cape again.

Sorry for the rant Bruce (and to the rest of the members of this board), this is why I tend to keep out of these discussions.

I have never run a CORSA convention econo run, but if the rules allow it as for
driving technique, I would think that an econo run combined with a rallye would
not work because the techniques used to extract max mileage would be counter to
those in driving a rallye.

I don't want to add fuel to the fire, but, I fail to see why a rally & econo run
couldn't be run over the same course.

Unless things have changed a lot, isn't the hard work laying out the route?

I guess I must be missing something?

Jason, stop listening to the tiny handful of people for whom the sun
rises and sets on the concours and listen instead to people like the
102 Corvair owners who came to the Clark's show on a SATURDAY last year.

The Saturday concours will attract more new participants than it will turn off.

Stop catering to small focus groups like those who like an econo
run.  They'll have one this year in Denver and if they step up to run
a future convention they can schedule what they like.  I'd rather
"alienate" the tired old thinkers and attract new blood.  I'd rather
change it up,  make it fresh, and -- most importantly to me -- make
it different from year-to-year.

The more this convention morphs toward being just another same-ol
CORSA convention, the less interest I have.
