Now that I've got your attention, I'm going to offer another great suggestion.
I am also in favor of inviting the Fiat 600 club to the convention!

After all, the early-series Corvair swing-axle suspension was a near duplicate
of the Fiat 600 rear suspension, introduced in 1955 by the Fiat's incomparable
lead engineer, Dante Giacossa!

Back in the 1950s, GM was experimenting with sophisticated deDion axles, but
when it came to engineering an independent suspension for a real production car,
they turned to Fiat for inspiration! <LOL>

From all the replies, I can see that we don't want any 'Vettes showing up at our
Convention.  But when I display my '66 Corvair at car shows, spectators are
always amazed when I tell them that my $2,400 economy car has the same
suspension as a '63 - '82 Corvette.  I'll concede on a ban of Corvettes at our
convention, but I still think it would be a neat idea to have an exhibit showing
the two suspensions side-by-side.  Al

I'm with Al on this one.

I think ONE CAR if they want, but the rear suspension display idea is great and
there is the tie to the Corvair.

I read somewhere the rear suspension design was going into the Corvair first,
but Duntov was against it because he wanted the Corvettes to get it first and
let the Corvairs follow the Corvette.

If the Corvettes were to follow the Corvair design that would not work for the
model "chain of command".

No one wants to take away from the Corvair, but I wonder how many Corvair owners
also have Corvettes?

Brian,  I am OK with Hugh Maquire's proposal, especially if the informational
display includes the original Corvette-based Corvair show car, which was
basically a '53 Vette with a fast-back roof.  It would also be interesting if
the display includes an exhibit of the '63 to '82 Corvette rear suspension,
which is nearly identical to the '65-'69 Corvair rear suspension.  The story of
the Sting Ray rear suspension - the who, what, when, where and why of its
development - should interest anybody who owns the second-series Corvair.  All
I've ever heard about it is that it was developed by Zora Arkus-Duntov, but I
doubt that he was involved in its engineering.  Al Lacki
