Had a similiar failure with an electric pump -- it simply overheats and
stops pumping. Once the pump cools, it works fine again. Replaced the pump
with a newer, improved model from Claypool, who reported that the old model
did exhibit a problem of getting hot and failing (to pump fuel until cool
again). the old pump is now my garage fuel pump for transfer fuel, removing
fuel from tanks, etc and for debugging other fuel delivery problems.

How's that for fuel for the mechanical vs electrical fuel pump debate ??

try a different electrical fuel pump, i suspect this one will fail again
when hot, if it does, let it cool, and it should start again.
