[FC] Inside filler panel

Clark is absolutely correct... but.... if you plan on going in there again
any time in the future, it is well worth the time to fabricate a new mount
for the heater distribution box. From under the van you will need to reach
up and loosen (not remove) the two main nuts fastening the assembly to the
filler panel. Once you are able to pull the assembly free you can go inside
the van and remove the filler panel. The original bolts are a clutch head
type. Your local NAPA or LORDCO will have a socket type driver... I think it
is a #6. If it is not one of these original bolts, I guess it is a free for
all.
Once the filler panel is off, make a few measurements and bolt in your new
assembly mount so that you never have to go under the van again to remove or
mess with the heater box. The big bonus is all the room you have to work
with if you ever have to open up the tranny or the diffy.... you can do them
standing inside your van! That said, nothing beats taking the whole
drivetrain out and setting it on a nice wrist high stainless steel bench!
have fun!
