no pilot bushing used in powerglide vehicles. i always put antisieze in the 
nub because it usually fits so tight. sometimes it is too tight so i run a 
brake cyl hone in crank to smooth and enlarge slightly.  hope you took pilot 
bushing out , otherwise you know the problem, plus the converter IS damaged, i did 
see that once. boy it must take a lot to get the bolts in ...and the tranny 
bolted up. the nub is where the small shaft from the tranny seats.  did you have 
trouble bolting any of  units on? like tranny??  hmmmmm       regards tim
