[FC] Need some expert help

I looked it up in my 1960 P&A book. 6256685 is the complete transmission.
The casting number on the case is probably 6256675.
I find it unusual that very early Corvair drawing numbers start with 62 and
later designs are 37 or 38. You'd think it would be the other way around.

The aluminum 3 speed was the very first design transmission. Because of
premature failure of the cases, GM discontinued them and replace all
production units in service with the cast iron cased unit. I don't know if
there was any change in the internal parts when they made the change over to
cast iron. If you have parts books for the different years, it is group
4.103. Paul in CT

Hey All. I need some help with a transmission. I have an aluminum cased
3
speed with the short output shaft. I know that they are perculiar to 60
models. However, on checking this one, everything matches and looks right
except the casting number on the side. The Primer says the right number
is
6256685. Mine says 6256675. It is a 3 speed, aluminum cased, with a
stamped
steel cover, short output shaft and the input shaft is 21 3/4 inches long.
Any ideas, comments, suggestions, is this perhaps a real early 60, or
what?
Would appreciate any comments. Thanks Bob Bauer
