No, you're not imagining it.  That's actually the same styling buck for all 
the photos.  One side demoed the planned loadside configuration with the 
lockable storage compartment in the central "pit" area and a flat bed, the 
other demoed the rampside configuration with the pit open and the 
piano-hinged ramp we know so well.

Eventually, GM decided that the few customers who wanted a flat bed could 
order the flat-bed option, and deleted the luggage compartment.  Pity--it 
would be nice to have a corvair pickup with a locking trunk.
