Can't answer most of the questions, but the wheel cylinders are available at
NAPA. They fit more than just Corvair, so they might even be in stock. If
not, just a day or two to get them. As for brake fluid, I prefer silicone
brake fluid for all my old cars because it isn't hydroscopic and you never
have to change it. I also have the original design braking components on my
1964 Spyder. It is my feeling that if you start off with all new components
that the original braking system will be fine for all your casual driving. If
I were driving the car as a daily driver, I still wouldn't make the change to
a dual master cylinder, but rebuild the system every 45, 000 miles or 3 years.
The original safety theory of the dual master cylinder was because it was a
generally accepted fact that people had brake failures because of poor
maintenance. Even dual master cylinder systems require the same maintenance,
however, they do give you that margin of safety if you don't do maintenance
until failure is imminent. Not wanting to start a debate here, just stating my
feelings. In my more than 45 years of driving, I have never had a brake
failure with single master cylinder cars. I believe that is because of proper
maintenance schedules that I followed. Your car, your choice, good luck with
the conversion.

Subject: [FC] Rampside Dual Master Cylinder Conversion HELP

I just received my Dual MC Conversion Kit for my '62 Rampside, through a NE
vendor. A few questions come to mind though: 1) How large a hole should be
cut
out of the floor pan; 2) Is there a plug for this hole, to keep water from
entering; 3) I'd like to replace the hole brake line system. Are the lines,
both hard and soft, and wheel cylinders available from local parts dealers?
4)
What's the preferred brake fluid type to use 5)Any suggestions on how to do
this conversion would be appreciated. THANKS, Diodato Grisi CORSA, NJACE
