[FC] Torn Thread

Spark plug hole repair is easy. Just bring the piston up to top dead center.
Then back the piston down about 3/4". Take a old bed sheet and tear it into a
long strip about 1" wide and 4' long. Using a small screw driver, push the
cloth into the hole a little at a time, until the entire piece is inside the
cylinder. Then get the Helicoil and install according to the directions on
the package. After the Helicoil is installed, grab the end of the cloth with
a needle nose pliers and pull it out. Along with the cloth will come all the
metal chips that you have created in the Helicoil installation. Just be
careful when you install the spark plug in the future, not to pull the
helicoil out of the hole. I have seen some aluminum heads where the spark
plug hole was repaired and the repair destroyed by someone carelessly
installing spark plugs later on. Then the only repair is to remove the head,
and rebuild the hole by TIG welding. If you would like more information on
this, consult this article...... Paul in CT.
