[FC] changing generators

I recently replaced my 61 Rampside's burned-out generator with one from a 64.  I ran it briefly to see if I could detect any weird smells or noises and everything appeared OK.
Should I go back and make sure the generator is polarized? 
If so, how?  The regulator has not changed.  Thanks for the help.
