Folks,

Steve Kirkton and ourselves headed out for the CORSA convention yesterday morning from the Dallas area. We got on the road about 7:00 and made it to Garland,Texas before discovering a transmission leak on Steve's Greenbrier. It was minor, but the drips would occasionally hit the exhaust crossover and emit a puff of white smoke.
This type of problem became more evident to us in Mt.Vernon,Texas, when a late model Yukon hit a ratchet strap laying in the interstate and it kicked up and destroyed either the transmission pan or a line to the cooler. Huge clouds of white smoke started billowing from under the Yukon. This guy drove for about two miles like this, until he has coated both our vans with fluid. Traffic was so heavy and so fast in the left lane that none of us could brake hard to avoid his cloud.
We pulled over up the road to get gas and clean the vans up. I was getting 18.5 mpg and Steve about 1 mpg less.
In Hope Arkansas, Woo started fighting with wasps, which were coming on the kick panel vents. Apparently, we had a nest in the air plenum. After killing three and seeing others stuck under the wiper blades, their activity ceased. Woo continued jerking everytime anything brushed against her.
In Brinkley, Arkansas, a semi passed us, covering both vans with diesel fuel, which was leaking from somewhere. Once again, we found a place to pull over and clean the vans up.
The funny point of the day came from Jackson,Tennessee. We saw a license plate bearing "I HERDAT". Kat and I had a good chuckle while Woo tried to understand what it meant. We know who has hillbilly blood now.
Gas mileage improved to 19.5 for me and about 1 less for Steve. His 95hp/PG/3.55/skinny tires versus my 95hp/4sp/3.27/fat tires. Both vehicles had no problems with the grades heading into Nashville and the weather was absolutely perfect.

  Stay tuned for day 2,
  Bill Wells
