I have had good luck on earlies and FC's by using weatherstrip cement to
glue the rubber strips to the sheet metal,  This is just to hold them in
place while Drilling 1/8" holes thru both and then installing 1/8" aluminum
pop rivets. If you can find wide head rivets, so much the better, otherwise,
use small washers  under the rivets.  Then paint black.
