At this point in Corvair history, unless you *know* that you have an 
unmolested original car [or truck] (very few of these are left anymore), 
the engine type bears little relationship to what might be in the 
transaxle.  Like pulling the blower bearing housing / cover to see if it 
is a 145 or 164 inch motor and both heads to check combustion chamber 
design and to see if they match (casting numbers won't tell the whole 
story if'n someone has been busy in the combustion chamber with their 
die grinder) -- you have to visually check the differential ratio (maybe 
it is a non-functioning limited slip - you don't know if you don't 
check), and you need to check the trans, both low gear ratio, and input 
shaft diameter before you really know what you have. I think most all 
Powerglides are the same (someone please correct me if this is not the 
case).
