[FC] about bolting the flywheel....

Hi all!

I am about to bolt the flywheel from the GB.... I bolted the flywheel on the 64 previously without much trouble or incident, but that was with a stepped flywheel.

Checking the Finch book, the recommendation is to throw away the "inertia plate".

Corvair Underground shows Dale bolted flywheel with and without the "weight ring".

It would certainly add much clearance to those pesky lower two bolts in the bellhousing without these plates.

Will this have any negative effect on anything?

I suspect it might idle a bit less smoothly without some of that rotating mass, and maybe make shifting smoothly require a bit more finess.

I don't see any problems with interference in the pressure plate side .... any concerns there?

It appears that I can leave the nut unmolested if I put it on the PP side.

True?

I am using grade 8 5/16 bolts and nuts along with high temp locktite.

I bonked it with a hammer and it had emitted a decent ring... not a high pitched glass like ring, but not exactly a bell type ring either. More like a cast iron frying pan kind of ring.....

So I plan to drill out one rivet at a time and bolt it one at a time.... unless you help me decide to toss out that "inertia ring".

Then balancing will become a bit of an issue, but not difficult to do.

thanx for your help folks!
toodles
