Mr Math and Mr Geometry -- the Num3ers don't lie -- you might be lucky 
and get away with it for a while, but unlike the LM's, where the 
half-shaft is part of the suspension linkage, the axle in the early 
models is only for transmitting torque to the wheels and should be free 
to slide in and out at the differential.  Yeah, it might work, but it's 
not the way it was intended, and someday, something won't. Work that is.
