Interesting idea.  I doubt a GB/Corvan roof would work as there is quite a
heafty inwards taper to the top half of a van.

The thing that makes any kind of bolt on tough is the weird shape of the RS
bed.  It has an inch and a half of taper.  They're wider at the front than
they are at the rear.

For the fiberglass tonneau I built I had to remove 5.5 to 4" of width and
ADD about 8 inches in length.

Hello Bill. I wonder if the fiberglass roofs off the mini vans (conversion
vans , raised roof style) would be a good canidate for a Rampy bed cover?If
not, how about the steel roof sections of the same van?We have a Pick-A-Part
style salvage yard that will let you remove anything you can get with a
battery style sawzall. Or a regular hacksaw will work.You could cut the
perimiter of the roof and leave the rain gutter on it for a lip. Just a
thought. Patrick .

I had a professional glass installer come to my shop and I assisted him.  I 
had the same Clark's windshield rubber and the chrome insert.  It took him 
about 15 minutes and went in very nicely.  One corner is not perfect but 
overall it came out extremely well.  He charged me $25.  I put in the rear 
window in my rampside and as I recall it wasn't too bad - did you have the 
special tool that Clark's sells to install the rubber lock strip?  I 
installed the lock strip after the window was in. The only problem I had was

judging the length of the filler strip as it tends to stretch. I used the 
black rubber lock strip - not the chrome one.   I can't explain your 
difficulties but working with glass is not my favorite thing to do either.

I have a rampside and am thinking of getting a canvas cover
for the back or trying to get a topper for the back.? I do not want
something as high as the original camper tops that one could purchase in the
60's.?? Any ideas on something one could purchase or build to enclose the
cargo area? Bill

i made a wooden frame that hinged in 2 places.  i used a hot rod hood  pin 
for the front half.  that way i could still use the front part with the  
ramp.  i had a divider to hold luggage in the higher deck over the engine.  
worked good for many years. i hope to make a new one for just the rear  part

soon out of fiberglass. right now i am using a rubbermaid large deck box  
(available @$100. at home depot or lowes etc) just setting in the ramp area
to  
hold luggage , chairs , tables , chairs , etc for shows.it is fairly easy to

remove by myself if needed. looks ok and keeps things dry and organized. by
the way , i just painted the back loading area with a mix of rustoleum  
type paint colored a dark gray  with a handful of carbide blast media  
(while paint wet ) on the ramp and lower area for traction.  it looks and 
works 
well so far.  seems very tough after dragging the box onto it and  walking 
on it .

Here's a link to a video of what we're doing.  It's a full size fiberglass
tonneau I bought used, and then modified to fit.  You won't find anything in
a hardshell tonneau that will fit a Rampside.

The hydraulic lift is a bit of work, but I also explored a simplier side
hinge using linear actuators from a company called Gaylord in CA IIRC.

When we're done with the Top Up system it'll get canvas so it can double as
a light weight popup camper.
