If you lube the cable itself, make sure not to get the grease any higher 
than within 2 feet of the speedometer head.  If you put grease in the upper 
2', then you run the risk that the grease will migrate into the head, and 
cause you more problems.  You only need a very light smear, and it shoulnd't 
visiably appear on the cable if done properly.  Paul in CT
