[FC] question, not Corvair specific

Guys
During my spare time I look at old car ads on Craigslist. Many times I see old cars, including Corvair cars and FC's that are in flat black or a dark grey primer. Other than the primer there appears to have been nothing else done to the car, and it is more and more common. My cynical nature tells me it is a "concealment tactic", but I have been accused of being a pessimist. Anyone?
