[FC] Greenbrier roof rails

Has anyone capped/covered the interior roof rails of their gb as part of installing new headliner panels?  Or possibly tried a textured vs smooth finish on exposed rails?  Long story short, mine are in rough shape and getting into the rail grooves for sanding is a major PITA.  

I'd love to hear some alternatives to sanding these down, also opinions or pics if available.
