i run 2 batteries at times in the rampy , thru a marine diode isolator with 
 @100 amp alternator. i have a marine refrigerator / freezer running off 
battery  number 2. we sometimes take it on trips. works out very well. battery 
lasts all  night ok in motel parking lot.
as a side note , i parted out a greenbrier a few years back that had a  
matching battery box on the right side. it looked factory! whoever did it was  
clever? i still have what i could cut and save,hoping to install it in the 
rampy  someday. i posted pictures when i found this unit.  NAPA has the 
isolators  , or you could buy 2heavy diodes and mount them on a good size heat 
sink  insulated from mounting. i would use 2 diodes , feed each battery thru 
it's own  diode from the alternator , taking power from each for separate 
circuits.just  like bigger boats.
the extra battery can be maintained , or go dead and you still have your  
main ready to start you up .
another way would be to use a heavy constant duty relay. it brings both  
batteries together only when running or charging. this is used on some  fire 
trucks and ambulances etc etc.
