[FC] Synthetic oil...serious tapping

"top end lifters"?  I have no idea what they are, but clean oil with a 
little extra adding a cleaner of some kind should be tried.  This happened 
to me once and I had to disassemble and clean the lifters to get them to run 
quietly.
