Hello Ken,

I am looking at my Oct 1, 1964 P & A Catalog:

4.417 GEAR, Transmission 1st and Reverse

60-63 CORVAIR, F.C., CHEVY w/3-SPD,
64 F.C. w/3-SPD................................. (29 teeth-16
spline)............. 3725646
61-63 CORVAIR, F.C. w/4-SPD................. 1st (3-7/8 O.D.) (31
teeth).... 3775090
64-65 CHEVY, CHEVELLE w/4-SPD......... reverse (35
teeth)............... 3831748
64-65 CHEVY, CHEVELLE
w/4-SPD......... 1st..................................... 3849388
64-65 CORVAIR, CHEVY, CHEVELLE
                  w/3-SPD................................. 1st and
reverse ................... 3848091
64-65 CORVAIR
w/4-SPD.........................
1st..................................... 3852243
64-65 F.C.
w/4-SPD.................................
1st..................................... 3852244

Unfortunately, the tooth count for parts 3852243 and 3852244 are not
stated. However, the tooth count of part 3775090 1st gear, which has the
same 3.65:1 ratio as the 64-65 FC transmission, is clearly stated as 31
teeth. Are you sure that the transmission you have is a 4-speed? If it
is, are you sure it is not a 64-65 car transmission from a 500 model, which
did not come with back-up lights.

1st Interesting Side Note: It appears that the early Corvair 3-speed shared
a lot of parts with the 3-speed from the Chevy II and Chevelle cars.

2nd Interesting Side Note: There is no listing of a 1st gear for a 65 FC
with a 3-speed transmission. I know of no 3-speed equipped Greenbriers in
the 1965 Registry. Were all of the manual transmission 1965 Greenbriers
fitted with the 4-speed either as standard equipment or as a "mandatory"
option?
