For the amout of work you need to do to lower the engine to remove the trans and/or diff you may as well pull everything. The early peremiter seals aren't that bad to take off the retainer strips. It's just that the late model is so much quiker to slip it off the edge of the sheet metal.

For those of you with similar problems, the yoke having to much side play in the carrier assy, some time ago I offered a service to machine and put bushings in that area to eliminate the worn area in the carrier.

Subject: [FC] transaxle

Looking for ideas on transaxle removal. My '61 Rampy has received a diagnosis of
adly worn bearing surfaces where the stub shafts exit the differential case.
eplacing the bearings does not completely correct the problem. I have removed
he engine/transaxle assy. many times on lates and twice on earlys, but find it
specially bothersome on these earlys with their byzantine shrouds. Has anyone
ried removing the transaxle while at the same time leaving the engine inside
he car? Is there room for this if I take the front crossmember out? Tim '61
