pull the whole wad , MUCH less apt to damage things! if the shrouds are  
brittle , take the time to rebuild them , it makes things go smoother , AND  
looks better.
i use a 1/4 air ratchet to get most of the 5/16 screws out of the shrouds.  
it does not take long...(longer now with aging)  1 hour gets the whole mess 
 out on a slow day , if i am mad enough at it , it goes much faster!
check the spyder gears...if this is a powerglide , plan on doing ALL the  
seals, including the one at the front of the pinion..
if you have a spare unit , clean and rebuild it and do a quicker  change.
