I'd do it in the other order, saving the torch for last, then if all 
else fails, it's just a simple change to the cutting head ...

Lubricant around the axle hub, and everywhere else since the soft pieces 
are not for reuse -- shame it is off the rig, because there went your 
holding fixture to really pound on the flat steel face of the drum 
between the wheel studs -- I have a special hammer, maybe only 24 
ounces, but with a long handle so I can really hit something with it, 
that I like to use for this -- hit it hard enough and often enough, with 
penetrating lube, and you won't need a torch.  if you do, just heat 
around the axle hub.

When rigs start to get this old, you really want to save all the pieces 
that you can, including old brake drums -- if you don't want to store 
them, take them to the next club meeting or swap meet.
