Your "heat" problem may well be caused by a lack of ZDDP - zinc and 
phosphorous in combination.  Check the web for ZDDP and the reasons that you 
need it in flat tappet engines.  You might wish to add a ZDDP supplement 
during break-in.

BTW - on a "break-in" of a fresh engine, I change the oil after one hour, 
then after 100 miles, then after 500 miles, if not clear of metal 
particles - one more time after 1,000 miles and THEN go to normal change 
interval.  Inspect the oil and also change the filter each time as well.

Find and oil to use for long term which is at least 1200 ppm ZDDP.  Mobil 1 
15/50 might be the answer.  You need to go to their web site and find the 
chart of their various products.
