Ok, I cant fight it anymore.  I am sending this in honour of Rick
Norris who wouldnt have lasted as long as me.

I thought KY was needed for a tight ring?

Since you likely will also remove the filler neck, you will also have
two hoses to replace.  Silicone grease, Syl-Glyde, will be better than
the aerosol.
