[FC] "generator " light

Somebody else will know better but I seem to remember that something had to be done with the bulb. Like maybe there were different bulbs for generators and alternators... different resistance maybe. Solution was to add a resistor or diode or something. Again, my memory is very foggy and likely wrong on this. Maybe one style had switched ground and the other was grounded and had switched power. Might be wide range in what works vs exactly how it should be. Hundreds of good articles online rearding the proper wiring of charging systems but it isn't real exciting reading.

Subject: [FC] "generator " light

I am tracking down the source of the red "generator" light on Rampy. (I had doubted my correct install - swap of 1966 alternator for the rampys original generator) I had my wife watch the dash while I Moved the wires going to the voltage regulator and it seemed to indicate that the blue or brown wire was hit or miss. I replaced some squeeze - type connectors in those lines with soldered connections, and tested it again. After driving 5 miles the light came on again while shifting.I had her watch the dash again and then seemed to narrow the search down to the flat 4 -gang plastic plug going to the Voltage reg. I cut those wires and replaced them with soldered - on spade connectors. the light stayed out for another 3 miles trip then came on again. Next I will replace the plastic two - prong plug going into the back of the alternator with separate spade connectors soldered onto their respective blue and brown wires. If that does not fix the light I will look at the big plastic p
lug for the whole rear engine harness. B.T. W. when the light goes out, the needle on my voltmeter points right at 14 volts charging, so the alternator itself is running just fine. More later onTim
