With single wire lights, that is the way you have to go.

I think Ken is correct when he says that the power needs to be on a switched 
ircuit so that if (when!) I leave the truck in Reverse, the lamps still go out. 
he lights  have a single  wire, so i assume the lamps grounds through the 
umper mount. So if I have this correct, I need to run a wire from a circuit 
hat is only hot when the ignition is in the "run" position and take that to the 
witch, and then on to the lamps.  ThanksTim
