[FC] 140HP aircleaners for FC?

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the problem is with the 90 degree turn the air has to make where the housing sits on the carb and not the air filter's flow capacity.  Look at how tiny the intake horn is on a late air cleaner housing.

It may be the older air fliters are restrictive.. they were designed for lo
po engines. Two things. Size of air inlet passages and secondly, air
filters.
