[FC] Not the light switch this time...

Fred

Hope that fixes the problem.

I had a fun electrical issue on the Corvan today (which is running and driving well btw). The horn relay had been hanging from the dash since I don't know when. Been driving the van around fairly regularly for the past few months. Today I took it on a bit of a bumpy dirt road and the horn relay started banging on the e-brake handle and finally shorted out and fried the power wire all the way back to the harness!

I stopped (the van stalled due to the direct short) and pulled what was left of the relay out and carefully separated the wires. When I got to my friends place I taped up the burned power wire up and checked the rest of the system. Eventually I'll have to go back in there and do some re-wiring.

I did find out why the gas gauge isn't work after re-installing the tank though. I must have pulled the wires out of the gauge when I replaced the speedo cable at the same time. So now working speedometer, gas gauge, and all the lights!

The relay is attached w/ a plastic piece originally. In AZ that stuff dries out pretty good. So y'all might check and make sure the horn relay isn't bouncing around under the dash just in case.

Bob

Thanks Bob. I figured for 30 bucks I can get a new switch from Clark and totally eliminate that possibility. So, that is ordered.

Thanks,

Fred

Fred

I remember having the same issue w/ the light switch on my '65 4dr sedan. The contacts in the rheostat get dirty and start causing issues.

OK, two new problems.....................................

Problem 1

I tried the lights the other night and no dash lights and no tail lights. At first I turned the rheostat to see if that was it and left it in full clockwise position. Looking in the manual, I found a 15 amp fuse blown. I put in a new fuse and it blew it again. Remembering the rheostat light switch, I turned it back counter clockwise. A new fuse again and this time it did not blow. SO, is the light switch bad? I can drive with tail lights and low dash lights but I can replace it also if I can find one.

Problem 2

I got into the "POWERGLIDE" Rampside today to haul something and turned the key and NADA. Guages light up, electric fuel pump runs so the ignition switch must be engaging. I checked it was in NEUTRAL. I tried to start in NEUTRAL and all other gears (there are only R, D and L). Still nothing. I remember there is a safety cut off somewhere so you can't crank outside of NEUTRAL. Now what do I need to replace and where do I get one?

THANKS from a frustrated Rampie guy.
