[NoVa-Corvairs] 140 oil cooler question

Hey,
Upon tearing down the shrouds on the 140 today, it dawned on me that I never checked the condition of the oil cooler. As expected, it was clogged with detritis.
I have a folded-fin oil cooler from a '61 or '62 that I planned on installing. However, it seems that the stock 140 oil cooler is larger. Should I stick with the stock part or switch to the folded-fin unit?
As for the differential removal/installation, dropping and splitting the engine went smoothly. However, the clutch disk was ground down almost to the rivets. Before buying all of the necessary parts, I asked the PO when was the last time he replaced the clutch; "about 10,000 miles ago," he responded. Said Darrin, "he must have spent each of those 10,000 [expletive] miles riding the [expletive] clutch."
We did not refit the old disk; instead I spent the afternoon removing, degreasing, and stripping the shrouds (which were all painted blue or silver). The friend in whose garage my disassembled Corvair sits is very understanding.
