Can anyone swap me a pair of late model axles for a pair of late model axles?
Consider: I don't have a pole barn and vast acreage in Clarke County, a garage, a driveway, or even a crappy carport in Bethesda. Hell, I don't really even have a fixed address. Due to my marginal existence, R&R of my axles would require that I leave my Corvair parked on the street, perched on jackstands in a state of disrepair, while I brought my axles to a machine shop to have the old u-joints removed and new ones pressed in. To avoid this rigamarole, I'd like to have a set of axles redone beforehand so I can perform the R&R in one fell swoop.
If you can provide me with axles with the u-joints already removed, I shall provide you not only with my old axles but also with a gen-u-wine "Put the force in your rear" t-shirt that I wore for approximately 60 seconds before deciding that (1) it was too big (size L), and (2) I'd rather have one in a color other than white.
I know Clark's sells redone axles for $120/pair (less $40/pair core refund), but that's insane. Anyway, only gentiles pay retail.
Keep in mind that my axles are for a '65 -- correct me if I'm wrong but 66-69 take larger diameter bolts, no?
I'd like to do all of this before the Vair Fair (4/28 - 4/30).
Many thanks,
daniel
