Greg:
I see that Bryan has answered the questions on carburetor accelerator
pumps. 140 hp secondary cabs do not have accelerator pumps. They have
all the linkage and mechanical pieces but the factory left off the
plunger diaphragm. Who needs a squirt of gas when you are already up to
3,000 rpm. The factory did it that way because the return spring in the
plunger is what makes the throttle plate in the carbs return to the shut
off position. Having said that those who cannot leave their engines
alone, and we know who we are, have installed the diaphragms on the
secondaries because it just might be that a little extra gas will make
the car accelerate faster.
No, the high mpg winners where not all from the same pump at the top off
station. By the way, the man, Clay, that topped off your Greenbrier is
the CORSA representative for the economy run and is currently reviewing
all the results and trying to decide what changes, if any, CORSA needs to
make relative to the economy runs.
