[NoVa-Corvairs] Concrete blocks, wood ramps, etc.

Ok, here's what I know about blocks under cars:

If you use concrete blocks instead of jack stands, they can crack
without warning and kill you. Really. I know a guy who lost a
friend that way, he's pretty emphatic about it. Oh, don't leave a
car on a jack without stands and work on it either. A guy on VV came
home one day and found his dad dead under the Spyder. Another guy
had a jack fail, but his dad was there and got the car off him right
away.

Now, since the question is for a replacement for ramps, pavers may
work, but they can crack on uneven pavement too. Maybe not a big
deal as a ramp, but probably kind of scary.

I like wood best of these choices for ramps, it has enough give to
flex with the load and some real strength holding the fibers
together. I have not heard of a failure of a solid wood ramp, though
I suppose they could eventually dry rot.
