To Dave Newell,
You and your chapter are invited to become part of a moment in history. That moment will be known as Corvair’s 50th Anniversary Cruise across America.
The purpose of this 14 day cruise that will begin on September 7, 2010 is to celebrate through a colorful and historic rolling car show the life of an automotive pioneer, Edward N. Cole, and his many contributions to General Motors. Contributions that include historic and unparalleled leadership, and innovative styling and engineering. The same styling and engineering that created his car of the future, our car the corvair.
The cruise will begin where summer still lingers, the ocean-side town of Santa Monica California, the beginning of the legendary Route 66. We will cruise the entire length of this highway of America’s past. Whether your adventure begins with us at the start in Santa Monica or anywhere along the route, you are invited to travel with us as long as you like. We will continue on to where Route 66 ends in Chicago. We will make stops along the way at selected Chevrolet dealerships. The purpose of these stops is to display our cars at or around these dealerships in an effort to recruit new members for Corsa and potential customers for the dealerships. The stops will be in Santa Monica, Flagstaff AZ, Albuquerque NM, Amarillo TX, Oklahoma City OK, St. Louis MO, and Chicago IL.
Once we reach Chicago, the end of this historic route, we will set our sights on the quiet little farm town of Marne in western Michigan. Marne is the birthplace and hometown of Ed Cole. On September 17th, 2010, the day after we arrive, we will celebrate the birthday of this legendary man of the automotive world with food and fun. Next day on the road we will travel to Ypsilanti Michigan, where we will fill the parking lots while the sound of our motors once again resonate off the walls of the willow run plant, echoing back to a time when our car proclaimed to the world a new day in automotive design and engineering. October 2, 1959 was that day. The day the world met for the first time Ed Cole’s car of the future.
Its going to be an exciting memorable and once in a lifetime experience. So come ride with us, join in the fun and invite a friend to this historical event. We will see you in September.
