I think that's very much the case - on nice days driving around the 'burbs, it's quite common to see something interesting in the garage.  I usually see neat cars on the road around here, rather than parked.  It's probably also a little tougher to use an old car as a driver out in the suburbs given the number of miles that get racked up.

Personally, I like the idea of driving that Porsche as a winter beater, rather than a summer driver.  I have enough of those :-)
