[NoVa-Corvairs] Jan 31 location & phone

I used to drive by the tack on my 63 spyder with a 3.27. 185/90 x 13"' and usually 60 was 2800 to 3000. But i would agree with Frank that depending on the tires you will usually have 200 to 300 RPM difference at that speed. Lot's more Pep though!

Could rebuild the 3.27 rear if it is an issue but I think Richard needs to be back on the road Corvairing! -- -- Lee

3500 to 3600 typically, I used the tach as my speedo on the 64 Spyder by doubling the tach reading. I've seen 4500 going up 95 back in the 80s

Is there a lot of RPM difference between 3;55 and 3:27. I know mine is a 3:27 and at
70 MPH my tach shows about 32 RPM.About what would a 3;55 show.

Thanks

Richard

BTW,

An original Spyder would have 3.55 gears, and a typical Monza had 3.27
gears for a four speed. Now, either differential could be either ratio by
this time, but I would check it. If Richard's car now has 3.27 gears, it
will be more noisy and get poorer fuel mileage than a 3.55 ratio. Now, if
Richard is interested in faster acceleration or stop light drag racing,
then the 3.55 is the preferred ratio.

In any case, yes, that differential is good. A few hours and a new snout
can be in it, ready for another 100k miles.

Sure Bob, we're in Springfield and I am pretty flexible this week, let me
know when you're thinking.

BTW, don't toss that old diff, it sounds like a likely good core for a
rebuild.

the most logical course of action for us to take to get his 63 back on the

install/donut fest:

get your pilot bushing tool since you are out of town this weekend? I
could meet you and pick it up.
