[NoVa-Corvairs] 37th Annual Vair Fair After Action Lessons Learned

My thoughts:

1. Yes, valve cover race was poorly attended. I've made comments in
another email to the group.

2. Yes, retired people and those with vacation time show up early on
Friday to avoid the traffic. Of course if club members have to work,
then you can not open hospitality early. It is nice to offer cold
beverages and light snacks as people arrive.

3. Sam Adams keg went empty early on Saturday afternoon.

4. Yes, too many muffins, because the hotel serves breakfast. You might
have overbought on sugar drinks, but diet almost ran out! I put the last
of the diet drinks in the cooler about 5 PM so there would be some for
the cake session. The cookies disappeared during the day, then
reappeared with the cake. So then there were some left over. If they had
been out all day they would have been gone. And I would have gained
weight!!!!

Always better to have excess snacks/drinks than to have people thirsty
and hungry grumpy. If it was hotter, water goes very quick. I have had
to go back to the store when running hospitality rooms at Vair Fairs
many times. Always hold them near a Walmart...;-)

5. Yes, I missed the Best Of Show, Long Distance and Hard Luck awards.

6. Pre-ordered list of T-shirts did not make it to Stan. Lucky, he was
able to fill my pre-order with stock on hand at home. If I just came for
Saturday that would not have happened.

Overall a GREAT time!

Excellent dash plaques and trophy plaques.

Excellent T-shirts.

And thanks to Ron and Karen for spearheading and working to make it a
success.

> I guess our guests (and staff) were not as hungry as we thought they would be! Next time, only 3-4 packs of muffins, instead of 8. (We ended up raffling 4 packages). We overbought on drinks, and potato and tortilla chips. The amounts for "pinwheel" wraps and croissant sandwiches seemed to be good, and the cut up fruit and veggie trays seemed to go. (Thank you Ron, Greg & AJ!)

> The People's Choice went well. Next time we have to make sure everyone has one or two ballots in their goodie bags. My biggest fear was too many people showing up and not being able to park their Corvairs in their class, but it was not a problem at all this time (we had 3 extra spaces). (Thank you Greg & Darrin)

>
> We had one inside and one outside vendor. $10 to vend was cheap! If I had more time to gather some things up, I would also have tried to sell a few things... I don't know if the inside vendor made any sales, but the outside vendor sold at least two rebuilt starters, one of which was installed in the parking lot. (Thank you Junkman Dan!)

> Although we had more than enough plaques for awards, we overlooked an award for the winner of the valve cover race! Luckily, we had two winners in other classes who won more than one award, one of which was willing to give up one of his duplicates to satisfy the winner of the valve cover race. (Thank you, Joe Darinsig!) Obviously, this will not be a problem next time if we don't have the race...
>
> We did not have a few classes for plaques... Long distance (in a Corvair, of course!) might have encouraged a few others to come from farther away. Best of Show? (That gold '67 'vert was just spectacular!) What about Hard Luck? (We had more than one competitor here).
