[NoVa-Corvairs] Ultravan Mabel update

hi all-

I've gotten a bit of work done on Mabel since the August meeting.  Flushed
out the old gas from the tank,, which had not been used in I don't know how
long (and had the red gas tank in use behind the driver seat),  added some
new gas and pumped out until it was nice and colorless, and removed the
old/bad fuel selector valve,  and put in a new electric fuel pump. Starts
right up and runs smoothly.

Got the shifter tube and linkage installed.  Seems to shift well but still
working on clutch.  Coudn't make new floor mount pedal work because of it's
angle, so replaced master cylinder in current clunky clutch pedal.  Changed
slave cylinder.. Working on adjustments, but the trans was about bone dry.
Not a good sign?  But the guy I bought it from never drove it and didn't
know how long it sat.  There seems to be a slow leak of trans oil and not
sure how long it sat and leaked, slowly.

Thinking long term,  am going to steal Bob Marshall's blueprinted and
balanced 140 and put together a nice set up for Mabel, so we can eventually
take this thing around the country.  But I think I really do want to do a
PG with it for long term.  This thing is a beast and I feel like we would
be happier with PG for maneuvering and if my wife ever takes the wheel on
long trips.  So I'm going to research and would love to hear any opinions
on a set up that would give me the nicest powerplant for traveling in this
big whale.  Gears, cam, etc, and maybe I can tackle this motor.  I would
love to learn how to build one and maybe it would be a fun group project at
some point.  In the meantime, if anyone with experience and thoughts are
willing to share his thoughts, I would be very appreciative!
