Michelle,
Very simple, but save the box, instructions and all extra parts not used! If the engine "Runs On" when the key is off, you will need to install one of the parts provided in one wire on the voltage regulator........... ask me how I know sometime...
The MSD ignition, either MSD 5 or 6 series works very well on Corvairs and the triple spark crankshaft duration considerably exceeds the normal points spark duration. An MSD does not replace the points and it can be triggered by points or Pertronix Ignitor.
My 180 turbo Corsa Convert ran much better with the MSD 6 and the Dale Mfg. 2500 vacuum/retard unit on it!
It may be that you will need a tachometer adapter in your application, but you will see if the tach works off the tach electrical blade connector on the side of the MSD box. I run a MSD 6A on one of my Binion fuel injected Corvairs and it has a tach adapter which I may have purchased to make the injector signal correct? My MSD equipped Corvair is in storage out east of CO Spgs, but will be out there this week, to get Chris Klapp a '66 4spd transmission and differential, and will try to remember to look to see how I have it hooked up.
I am even putting a MSD 5 on my 6x6 Pinzgauer which has a Benz 4 cyl aircooled engine.
It should give me 20 degrees of crankshaft spark duration. The MSD 5 is the least expensive MSD unit and works very well in virtually every application!

Garrie Fox

Question. I have two Corvairs (both 65's), (actually have 3 but one is a parts car). On my red Corsa 65 turbo I have an electronic MSG ignition (which came that way) and the 65 140 4xcarb has just standard points. Do both the turbo and 140 take the same MSG ignition system? Is there anything I need to be aware of when installing a MSG system on my 140?
Thanks for any input.
Shell
