To All,
Friday was the rally, which had many participants. It was a photo rally
in which Herb & Jonnie Berkman took 5th place (I think), I know they
did place. It was vary scenic.
The hostility room had food, drink and munches, and across the hall
there were tables and chair where you could sit and eat and visit in Air
Conditioned comfort.
Friday evening some of us took the light rail into Portland and attended
the Oregon Beer Fest. Outside, tents, beer from all over the USA, food
and music. It was a bit crowded and noise, so I did leave early. Guess
I'm getting old. This is vary easy city to get around in on public
transit. Being over 62 years old I'm a "Honored Citizen" which for
$0.65 I can go anywhere.
Saturday was the Econ run. Thru Clark County in Washington, beautiful
rolling country side. There were about 40 cars participating. Larry
Claypool drove my 1960 4 door sedan and I navigated. Larry noticed that
the car was not coasting down hill vary well. So at our rest stop he
did a front end alignment. After that it really "rolled" down the
hills. I'm sure that helped us get first in Class for the Econo Run for
powerglide class, about 30 miles per gallon.
The banquet was attended by about 420 people. The number of registrants
for the convention was about 415 family members and individuals. This
works out to about 850 people in total. The banquet was well run and
finished on time, 10 pm. They invited all of the participants for a
given event up to the front, so people did not take a lot to time to get
to the front and pick up their award. Debbie and Dennis Peau put the
photos together again this year and did a great job. I was fortunate to
have my 1960 4 door sedan win first place (gold) in my class, restored
street stock. It scored 94.5 points, which puts in senior class,
YAAHHH!!! Boy was I happy about that. 94 are the minimum points for
Senior Class, so I just squeezed in.
The Cole award was won by Richard Jenkins in his Greenbriar. A real
deserving guy for that award.
I'll be driving the car to Los Angeles from here and leave the car in
Leona Campbell's garage there and fly home. Her husband and I owned the
car together, do I put it in her name and mine and will keep it there
for her to show as well.
Should be home about the 10th of August,
Christy Barden
