Subject: Re: RMC List - Powerglide opinions
1. the converter seal can cause leaks - drips seen from bellhousing
2. depends. if sealed well, a PG can go for a long time w/o leaks
3. yes and no. the worst set of leaks come from an old shift cable which can be sealed. other leaks come from the shift cable oring, the throttle lever oring, the governor oring, the vac mod gasket, the gasket between the diff and pg, the pan gasket, and yes, the converter seal
4. yes, did not seem to change performance much, but others may have different opinions.
one thing to watch for if you do replace the converter - look at the stator shaft on the differential. If visible wear is noticed where the converter bushing rides, you may be needing to look for another diff with less wear at that spot.
Happy motoring

I'm looking for opinions (from automatic Corvair owners) about your powerglide.
P1) How many PG owners have leaks due to weak/old torque converter seal?
P2) After a good drive, how many days go by before it starts dripping again?
P3) Did replacing the Torque Converter & gaskets fix your PG leaks?
P4) Do any club members have experience with a high stall TC?
Clarks recommends a High Stall TC (over stock) saying it will prevent stalls or engine drag at stop lights. My Dune Buggy is so light mine doesn't stall, but it does drag my engine when I brake and chirp the tires everytime I shift it into gear. I think this may be a good upgrade for me but would like to hear other opinions.
BTW - I need to go for a drive every 4 days now, to temporarily stop my PG leaks. This has gradually gotten shorter over the summer and snow is coming soon.
Thanks, I appreciate your PG experiences.
