[SCG] Stock Corvair Group and the Buffalo Convention

Now c'mon guys... why in the heck should I or anyone else even have to send
this note?

The board (of which Sarah certainly is a member and oh yeah, the President
of) approved this last summer at the convention... are you now going to
ignore your own voting? You can't even blame this on an "old set of board
members". The board approved this with exactly what has been proposed for
Buffalo and "so it is". It even seems that Stan has been consulted and was
working with the SCG officers... what else could have been done? Surely, it
can be worked into that "tight" schedule... okay, maybe someone will have to
miss a "tuna boat" ride but that isn't going to ruin a convention schedule.

I assumed this would have already been resolved... as most would deem it the
actions of a schizophrenic given all the prior actions and communications.
Did you forget or was it just a "brain fart"?

It's time for rational thought and I'm sorry we can't just "keep doing it
just the way we always have".

  Subject: Annual Stock Corvair Event

  Bill,

We met recently in Buffalo to go over the schedule for the convention.
During this time it was brought up that you had posted a "special" display
for the SCG. Harry, Larry and myself were unaware that you intended to do
this and felt that our schedule is much to tight as it is.

Stan then said that according to your by-laws it states you will have this

event annually. I advised Stan that I never saw the bylaws for SCG. I
thought a little bit about it and said you know, I think maybe he did send
it, but I didn't really have any need to read them. Yes, when SCG became a
chapter, Charlie West had the documents and forwarded them onto Harry.
Charlie made his recommendation to the Board, but we don't need to read the
by-laws.

In my personal opinion, if a chapter or special interest group has a
policy, that does not mean
that CORSA is bound to abide by those policies. CORSA must adhere to its
own policies. At the very least if you intended this to be a part of the
convention, you should have run this by Larry Claypool since he is the
Convention Chairman. As you know, there are P & P's for conventions and if
your group wanted a designated display area, then you would need to address
the convention P & P as well.

That being said, we have decided there is no room on the convention
schedule for a second display area. You do have a couple of choices. We do

have an open class in the Car Display. If you'd like to have the cars
displayed there, then they will be voted on and awarded awards accordingly.
However, the cars will not be able to enter Concours if this is the case.
The other choice is to make it part of you SCG group meeting. Meet inside
and then adjourn to the parking lot, etc. If you run out of time you could
decide at a later time where and when to all meet, however, the only time we

will list in the schedule is the time pre-set for the SCG.

  Sarah

The Annual Stock Corvair event has always been stated as part of the plan.
It was carefully crafted and spelled out in all of the documents that were
sent to all of the Board members, to Harry, Charlie, and to involved members

of the club (see copy of header, below). The event was added to the Buffalo

convention by Stan East and other members of the board of the host clubs,
and arrangements for time and place were also might want to made by them.
Also, I did specifically discuss the ASCE with Harry at the Portland
Convention and he asked me to work out the details with the host clubs - he
did not seem concerned with the details. Further, the ASCE was included as
a specific event on the plan the Board was given for the Buffalo convention
at the Portland Board meeting - if you still have it, you might want to take

a look at it.

I am afraid that we cannot hold the ASCE on the same day as the Concours and

Car Display, as we specifically designed the ASCE to be held on another day
so as not to compete with them and to make it possible for any car wishing
to attend both to be able to do so. This is also spelled out in detail in
the supporting document which were sent to all board members. We also made
a point of setting it up so as not to overlap existing events.

The ASCE was further mentioned in my "Directors Turn at the Wheel column
which was published in the August Communiqué - which I also ran by the Board

and by Mike and Harry.

Thus, I find it a little hard to believe that you are only just now finding
out about this. I also do not understand the problem, as this was all being

worked out by members of the SCG and the hosting clubs. It has always been
the plan that the ASCE would be an event run by the SCG itself, not by
CORSA, but to be held at the CORSA convention.

If you are telling me now that the ASCE is not gong to be held as we have
planned, I think you have some explaining to do to a lot of people. The
CORSA Board of Directors, given ample information and proper notification,
fully supported the formation of the SCG and the ASCE. Several members of
the CORSA BoD are also members of the SCG - Tony, Rich, Tim, myself, and
Kent Sullivan, former Board member. Larry Claypool is a member of the SCG
and has been copied on all correspondence. Many other prominent members of
CORSA are also SCG members, and are expecting this event. Dave Ellis, Stan
East, Marissa Andolino and many others are on the SCG committee which is
coordinating this event and have been working diligently to pull it off.

I am copying this to all the members of the SCG, including SCG officers and
SCG Research team, and to the CORSA Board.
