Dave, thanks. To clarify, the original tire we have in our hands right now
is Firestone (not Goodyear), and for whatever reason, Coker has easy access
to Firestone drawings. So that's the direction we were going. Based on
everyone's feedback, Duanne is going to talk to them about U.S. Royal.

I should add my thoughts after watching the thread. I was a little surprised
that reproducing the Goodyear tire was the object of your focus, but it
would still make a nice, contemporary appearing tire for Vairs in shows.

My interviews with retired GM execs of course point to the long relationship
between US Rubber (US Royal tires, and later Uniroyal) and GM going back to
the 20s when they assisted GM with a stock buyout, I think perhaps finally
ousting Durant. That favor gave US Rubber the inside track with GM for
decades.

All through the Corvair years, US Royal tires were installed on most
Corvairs at the factory. Despite the close relationship with US Rubber, GM
was never one to rely on a single supplier. As a result, General and
Firestone tires (and very rarely Goodyear tires; they mostly supplied Ford &
Chrysler) found there way onto Vairs without any special order for them.
Dealers rarely specified tire brands when ordering cars, but it was common
practice for trucks, particularly in fleet operations.

Absolutely, the Uniroyal Laredo is the tire to reproduce for 66-69 Corvairs.
And yes, we at the CPF could arrange to loan 5999's spare as a sample.

The repro Goodyear tire would still be nice to have, but the Uniroyal would
be the perfect one to reproduce.

For all it's worth, I went out and looked at my original spare (never used)
in it's rightful place in the engine compartment.  It's a GENERAL Jet-Air
II.  Hope this adds a little to the confusion.
